Rove Praising Hillary over Obama, Smells Fishy

http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2008/01/11/karl-rove-takes-aim-at-obama/

Karl Rove is taking a position against Obama and favoring Hillary? It doesn’t get simpler than this, and I hope that Americans can reconcile motives behind someone for whom, I hope, Americans can see coming.

Let’s deconstruct this to some basic premises:

- Rove is an arch Republican.
- Rove wants a Republican to win the next election.

- Rove does not like Hillary Clinton or Obama.
- Obama demonstrates that he can operate gathering bipartisan support.
- For Rove, Hillary is an easy battle for Republicans to maintain power.
- For Rove, Obama compromises this.
- For Rove, it makes more sense to disparage Obama and praise Hillary, as his intention is to match Hillary against a Republican.

Ultimately, it is this divisiveness that has run our government amuck. Conservatives now hemorrhage money, run up debt, and cut taxes. They are borrowing from our future while destroying the environment. The one GOP candidate who runs contrary to this, McCain, is my second choice to Obama, assuming Bloomberg doesn’t run. I don’t want McCain, for several reasons: one, he is too old; two, his position on reproductive rights; three, being strong about this horror of a President we have and Rove, to kowtowing to him.

Bad news bears.

It seems conservative analysts are more interested in the Democratic race than their own. Besides Rove, I've seen articles by David Brooks, Peggy Noonan, Charles Krauthammer, Fred Barnes, and Karen Hughes. What gives?

Another media observation: Most, if not all, of the TV clips of Hillary's cry moment were edited. For those that didn't see it the whole thing, imagine Hillary, still sniffling her way through some off-the-cuff remarks about how she struggles to survive the grueling campaign, all of a sudden releasing this abrupt non sequitir: "...and some of us are ready and some of us aren't. And some of us will know what to do on day one, and some of us haven't thought that through yet."

What?! But, Hillary, that has nothing to do with the question or what you were talking about!

For anyone's who's seen her in the last few months, you know these are her standard digs at Obama. Some say it was Hillary getting back on message after letting her guard down. OK - I'll go with that (as opposed to the very tempting interpretation that the WHOLE DAMN THING was contrived). But why did the media cut it off? Wouldn't it be more accurate to run the whole clip anyway?

I guarantee this was discussed in every news room that ran it. I guess the media decided it was real and wanted to run with the "real" approach. Or they believed that Obama really was going to run away with NH and the nomination (as indicated by the polls) and decided Hillary and the contest needed to be more competitive. Keith Olberman is the only one who raised this, gleefully as usual, and he's a pretty militant liberal.

My interpretation is that, yes indeed, Hillary really did cry. And her tears were real. And the moment was genuine. However, rather than let it all sink in and just enjoy what was a searingly poignant moment, she ruined the whole thing by blurting out her rehearsed, practiced, disingenuine, standard talking points.

I do think Hillary possesses tear-ducts. But I also think she is a calculating, over-coached politician. And I think the media should've shown the whole clip, which would've reflected that.

Well said, and I agree. Not to come of too elitist, but I hope their comments don't get the better of the voters. Ultimately, I am sure for many of them, their thoughts are "objective" to them, or so they think. Ultimately, however, I think their "objective" analysis is a practice deconstruction on Obama in advance of him running against a GOP candidate.
For Rove it is all strategy. Pictures of him are getting even more disturbing. I wonder if he has ever loved or been loved. If so, I wonder what they were like. At the end of the day, methinks, for Rove, it all comes down to self-love.

I know that I should acknowledge your superior intelligence and offer a considered, outsider's perspective on all this debating and media brouhaha, but
I LOVE YOUR PHOTOS
So good to see you all, even virtually.
